Demon Slayer: Top 10 Strongest Characters Of All Time

10 Giyu Tomioka

As a Water Hashira, Giyu embodies a river’s serenity and an ocean’s formidable nature. As one of the anime’s most powerful demon slayers, viewers have only glimpsed a portion of his immense strength. Introduced early in the story, Giyu is the first Hashira encountered, notable for his decision to spare Nezuko Kamado’s life. This action highlights his strict yet compassionate moral compass, distinguishing him from his more ruthless peers and positioning him as one of the most intelligent members of the group.

Giyu’s track record is impressive, having eliminated formidable demons, including Father Spider Demon and Rui, the Lower Rank Five. His prowess doesn’t end there; he has also faced and overpowered Akaza, the Upper-Rank Three, echoing the combat skills of Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Hashira. Notably, Giyu held his ground in the climactic battle against Muzan, showcasing his exceptional strength and resilience.

Giyu is a master of Water Breathing techniques. He wields his blue nichirin sword with deadly precision and defensive strategy. Among his arsenal of abilities is the renowned “Dead Calm,” which effortlessly neutralizes potent attacks. His combat style is distinct, prioritizing speed and precision over brute strength, often defeating demons with a single, well-placed move. This approach enables him to simultaneously target multiple vital points on a demon’s body with a singular strike, underscoring his status as a uniquely skilled and one of the strongest members of the demon slayer corps.

9 Muichiro Tokito

Muichiro Tokito might appear somewhat absent-minded, often engrossed in his own world. Still, he’s a committed and incredibly powerful character. As the Mist Hashira, Muichiro harnesses the Mist Breathing Style, an offshoot of the Wind Breathing Style, significantly contributing to his formidable abilities.

His key abilities include immense strength and the specialized Mist Breathing technique. Muichiro has achieved remarkable feats, such as activating his Demon Slayer Mark and gaining access to the Transparent World.

Muichiro’s mastery over his Breathing Style allows him to effortlessly combat and overpower Upper Moon demons, evolving an entirely new form of Mist Breathing. This level of skill and power places Muichiro among the elite, marking him as a significant and dynamic force against demonic threats.

8 Sanemi Shinazugawa

The Wind Hashira displays the ferocity and unpredictability of a tornado, first demonstrating his exceptional combat skills in a friendly duel with Giyu Tomioka. Sanemi’s remarkable abilities are vividly displayed as he effortlessly defeats numerous medium-level demons in the Infinity Castle arc, solidifying his status as an extraordinary warrior.

Even Kokushibo, one of the most powerful demons, acknowledges Sanemi’s diverse combat skills. Noting, however, that his human limitations slightly restrain his potential. Yet, it’s Sanemi’s agility that truly sets him apart.

His movements are so swift they nearly resemble teleportation, placing him in the ranks with the most powerful Hashiras. Sanemi’s blend of speed, skill, and tactical prowess makes him a pivotal character and a fearsome opponent to demonic forces.

7 Akaza

Akaza is among the most formidable and controversial characters in “Demon Slayer,” especially following the anime’s Mugen Train arc. As one of the upper-rank demons, his dangerous reputation is well-earned. Akaza’s track record is chilling, having eliminated the Flame Hashira, several other Hashiras, and numerous Demon Slayers.

Notably, Akaza was an accomplished martial artist even before his demonic transformation, which is evident in his combat techniques. His background as a professional fighter grants him the uncanny ability to anticipate his opponents’ moves and use their vulnerabilities. Beyond his martial prowess, Akaza is known for his extraordinary focus, seemingly limitless stamina, rapid regeneration, and unparalleled speed. His Blood Demon Art is heavily influenced by martial arts, combining devastating combat techniques with demonic powers to create lethal attacks.

One of his signature techniques, the Compass Needle, is particularly fearsome. It enables him to detect his opponents’ location, intentions, and weaknesses, allowing him to adapt swiftly and maintain the upper hand. Defeating him in a straightforward battle seems nearly impossible without significant assistance, as demonstrated when he effortlessly stops Hashira-level swordsmen in the Infinity Castle arc.

6 Doma

Doma stands out as one of the most powerful demons in existence. His allure enhances his portrayal of immense strength and power to the audience. As the second-highest-ranking moon, Doma is believed by some to be just a step away from seizing the top position, closely trailing Kokushibo. Initially introduced as the 6th Upper Moon, Doma has climbed the ranks over time through his increasing physical prowess or the demise of other demons.

This promotion has cemented Doma’s reputation as an unstoppable force that requires the intervention of the most formidable characters to be challenged effectively. Engaging in combat with him is a fight for survival, underscoring his role as a formidable and deadly enemy within the series.

“Muhyo: Suiren Bosatsu” presents a unique take on the Bodhisattva concept, offering a dark and intriguing interpretation. Doma showcases his mastery of Cryokinesis, demonstrating impressive precision in using ice-based powers for attack and defence. As the formidable Upper Rank 2 Moon, Doma’s confidence borders on arrogance, yet it’s clear that his powerful abilities make him an undeniable force in the narrative.

5 Gyomei Himejima

Gyomei is an immensely skilled swordsman, recognized by Tanjiro and Inosuke Hashibira as the strongest Hashira in the Demon Slayer Corps. Even Kokushibo, the formidable Upper Moon 1, acknowledges Gyomei’s extraordinary physical prowess and distinct fighting style, remarking that he hasn’t seen a warrior of his calibre in over three hundred years.

Gyomei’s combat approach, known as Kusarigamajutsu, sets him apart by utilizing the classic Kusarigama instead of the standard Nichirin blades favoured by his fellow Demon Slayers. It is a unique spiked hand axle connected by a chain, which he expertly manoeuvres, using the sound of the chain to pinpoint his strikes, effectively compensating for his lack of sight.

Additionally, Gyomei’s mastery of Stone Breathing creates a formidable force potent enough to put even the most daunting adversaries like Kokushibo on the defensive. This unique blend of traditional weaponry and powerful techniques defines his role as a standout warrior in the series.

4 Kokushibo

Kokushibo ranks as one of the strongest demons in the series, second only to the infamous Demon King Muzan. He is serving as the formidable Upper Rank 1 Moon. Originally a member of the Demon Slayer Corps alongside his brother Yoriichi Tsugikini, his transition into a demon endowed him with advanced capabilities. He harnesses Total Concentration Breathing techniques and can access the Transparent World and also exhibits the distinctive Demon Slayer mark.

His demonic powers allow him to morph his body into potent weapons and alter his sword’s shape. Kokushibo’s exceptional strength, agility, and endurance set him apart, overwhelming even the mightiest like Gyomei.

As the manga progresses, Kokushibo transforms dramatically, evolving into an even more fearsome entity, vulnerable only to sunlight. His Blood Demon Art leverages Moon Breathing and moon-shaped blades, rivalling Nichirin swords in power. This technique comprises fourteen distinct forms, surpassing most Hashiras and showcasing his unparalleled mastery.

3 Yoriichi Tsugikuni

Yoriichi Tsugikuni is known as the most formidable demon slayer who ever existed in the series. He stands as the singular figure that even Muzan feared. He barely survived an encounter with Yoriichi, escaping death by a narrow margin. Yoriichi is the creator of the initial Sun breathing techniques, from which all other styles used by the Hashiras have evolved.

Unlike his peers, who strive to awaken the Demon Slayer mark, access the transparent world, and achieve a selfless state, Yoriichi was born with these abilities. This innate power enabled him to dominate Muzan with a single breathing technique. Despite surrendering to the natural drawback of old age, Yoriichi’s abilities remained unmatched. Until his last moments, he could effortlessly subdue Kokushibo, his brother and the second most formidable demon.

2 Muzan Kibutsuji

Muzan is easily one of the strongest demons in existence. Although Yoriichi possessed strength beyond human norms, his mortality subjected him to the inevitable effects of aging. Conversely, Muzan’s endless youth and immortality, coupled with his mastery of Biokinesis, render him virtually unbeatable. His formidable array of abilities and techniques makes him a threat to even the mightiest Hashira.

Muzan’s power extends further, allowing him to control and alter demon physiology down to the molecular level. Challenging him in single combat is virtually impossible; only a united front of mighty warriors stands a chance against him. Yet, even the most potent Hashira pale compared to the overwhelming might of Muzan, the Demon King.

1 Tanjiro Kamado (Demon Form)

Although Tanjiro is a proficient swordsman as a demon slayer, he doesn’t rank as the strongest character in the anime. However, his transformation into Demon King Tanjiro marks a significant shift. This change, a direct result of Muzan’s final survival tactic, unlocks Tanjiro’s latent, formidable abilities that could prove catastrophic if uncontrolled.

In his demon form, courtesy of Muzan’s influence, Tanjiro exhibits unparalleled regeneration speed and the power to deflect all physical attacks. Like his sister Nezuko, he gains immunity to sunlight, rendering him virtually indestructible to humans. His enhanced Blood Demon Art, reminiscent of Muzan’s, elevates his strength above all other demons.

Yushiro, allied with Tamayo, noted Tanjiro’s immense potential as a demon, suggesting he could surpass even Muzan in power. However, Tanjiro’s brief time in this form means his full capabilities still need to be explored. Had his time as a demon been extended, he may have become the ultimate figure in the series.
